Now, with sign-ups open, is a good time to start thinking about what one wants, and what suggestions one should give to one's assigned creator.

I, at least, prefer to have the optional details in a separate letter rather than the box AO3 provides. (It also makes treating easier.) I know that others feel the same way, too, so here is a post where you may link your letter.
